Today we had the privilege of witnessing the baptism of our friend's son. I really appreciated his testimony, which included his recount of his father's influence in memorizing Scripture with him and his siblings. How many more Godly young men would we have in our world if fathers would make the Scripture a priority in the home? I also appreciated this young man's clear understanding of what it means to be dead to sin and have new life in Christ. Congratulations Nathan and Jon and Kelly! Your family is a blessing to our family!
After Nathan was baptized, the pastor announced that 3 Ethiopian young men were to be baptized next. Well, my heart fluttered and my arms filled with goosebumps. I cried as I watched these handsome boys share their testimonies of how God had transformed their lives. One of the boys had only been in the States for 4 months. The other two were born in the States to Ethiopian parents who came to America to give their family a better life. They said that their parents took them back to Ethiopia to show them the poverty that they had to endure. That had a tremendous affect on them. As I watched each boy's baptism, I felt the Holy Spirit fill my heart with the words, "Wait; Wait on the Lord. He will bring your children home." Praise God for the hope that He gives when our hope is fleeting.
Four young men. Four young men whose lives have been transformed by the cross. Four young men who are no longer condemned, but live now as adopted sons of God. Four young men whom God has chosen to live for Him. May all four live for Him who died for them all of their days!
As I look at my sons right now, I am filled with a longing that they too will one day say, in front of those witnessing, that they are sons of the most high God.
