Have you seen Lilo and Stitch? Several months ago, the boys asked if we could borrow it from the library. I was a little hesitant at first, because I had never seen it before and had no idea what it was about. It turned out to be a cute, little movie....somewhat stranger than I anticipated, but cute. Interestingly, there was one line in the movie that caught my boy's attention, and they repeated it every day for a couple weeks. In the movie, Lilo's sister wants to take Stitch back to the pound, and Lilo reminds her of a Hawaiian phrase that her father used to say before he died. I forget the Hawaiian word, but it means, "No One Gets Left Behind." Several times after we watched the movie, Jachin came to me and said, "Mommy, no one gets left behind, right?" I always gave him a hug and said, "That's right, Jachin. We're a family. No one gets left behind." He would smile and continue playing.
Well, that was several months ago, and they haven't said that phrase for quite awhile. But today, out of the blue, Jachin came to me and said, "No one gets left behind, right Mommy? We're a family." I smiled, gave him a hug, and said, "That's right, Jachin, we're a family. No one gets left behind. And we also have family in Ethiopia, children that will be part of our family. Remember? They aren't with us yet. We will have to fly on an airplane to bring them home." Jachin looked at me thoughtfully and said, "Mommy, we have to go get them soon, because no one gets left behind." "Yes, Jachin", I said, "We will keep praying for them, and God will show us when it is time to bring them home."
And at that, he was on his way to another toy and another thought.....
This is Jachin with Greg on a train at an amusement park.
The word you are looking for is "Ohana."
ReplyDeleteLilo - Ohana means family, family means no one gets left behind. Or forgotten.
Just found your blog and am loving it. Your boys are adorable. Reminds me of some little men we are trying to bring home.
