Havyn M.

This post is being updated on 9/25/11:  When I met with Havyn's birthmom, she told me why she named her Marete (they pronounce it: ma-ra-tay).  Though I will not be sharing the story on my public blog, I wanted to clarify that her middle name actually means "mercy".  Oh how I love that even more, and I am so glad that we kept her Ethiopian name as part of her name.

That's our little girl's name.  It is pronounced "haven", meaning a safe place.  Her middle name is her Ethiopian name.  It means "pearl".  Greg and I love names with meanings.  For some reason, we have had a really tough time deciding on a girl's name.  I saw this name on a blog that I follow, and loved it immediately.  I'm glad that Greg likes it too.  Havyn is at our agency's transition home right now, where children who have been matched with a family wait for all of the paperwork to be approved.  Our agency hires nannies to care for the children.  Though I feel that she is getting food, rest and is safe, I am anxious to give her the love and attention that every child craves, beyond their basic needs being met.

Dear Havyn, I am so glad that you are in a "safe place" right now, and I can't wait to hold you in my arms and be that "safe place" for you!  You are my little "pearl".  I treasure you.  You have been in my heart for so long.  Yesterday you turned 5 months old.  Happy Birthday, little girl.  Soon we will celebrate all things with you.  Daddy and I pray for you every day.  (I think I pray for you every minute).  Your big brothers talk about you and pray for you too.  They are so excited to have you as their little sister.  Josiah went to your picture last night and gave you a kiss.  I have a feeling that he is going to give you lots of kisses.  You are beautiful and special.  God loves you, and so do we, your family!
We are praying that by some miracle we can get you home this summer.  God is able to move mountains!  We are trusting in Him to bring you home.
I love you!

  1. Beautiful name! I am sure her Ethiopian name is beautiful too- I love that you are using both.

Write down those sweet things that your boys are saying and doing as you prepare for their little sister. It is priceless and someday she will get a kick out of knowing how much they loved her before she was even home! :)
